Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Gabriel Magalhaes could return to the Arsenal defence for the visit of Everton.
The Brazilian defender has missed the last three games against Manchester United, Fulham and Monaco but trained today.
Jakub Kiwior has started Arsenal’s last three games in central defence, keeping two clean sheets during that run alongside William Saliba.
“There is a possibility (Gabriel) will be available,” said Arteta. “He trained today. We will see tomorrow.”
Riccardo Calafiori has also missed the last three games through injury but the Italian is not yet ready to return.
“We’re just respecting the times that the medical department has set,” said Arteta.
“Then we monitor his evolution every single day. We understand he’s not fully ready yet, but he’s getting very close now.
Oleksandr Zinchenko also misses out but Miles Lewis-Skelly could continue at left-back after his impressive display in the Champions League on Wednesday.
“Well he certainly deserves to be in contention to be selected because he performed and competed really well,” said Arteta.
“At his age to show that maturity and personality is strange. Off the pitch is the same. He’s a person that continuously surprises all the staff with the kind of questions that he’s capable of asking. That tells you that Myles is a really bright boy.
“You always take a chance. It doesn’t matter the experience or age. He was surrounded by very senior players, very experienced players. We believed it was the right context where he could help the team to win the game and he certainly did that.”
