Portland Trail Blazers guard Scoot Henderson is expected to miss two more weeks with a bone bruise in his right ankle, per league sources. Here’s what you need to know:
- Henderson, the No. 3 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, has dealt with discomfort after spraining the ankle on Nov. 1 against the Detroit Pistons, the last time he played.
- Henderson will continue to rehab and work his way toward a return.
- The 19-year-old is averaging 8.8 points, 4.6 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game on 34.6 percent shooting from the floor this season.

What this means for the Blazers
The extended timeline for Henderson’s injury is poor timing for a Blazers team that is dreadfully thin at guard. Anfernee Simons is out (thumb surgery) and Malcolm Brogdon (hamstring) left Wednesday’s game in Sacramento after five minutes. If Brogdon’s injury is significant, Skylar Mays will become the starting point guard. The former LSU guard had 18 points in 37 minutes against the Kings after Brogdon left in the first quarter, and he has had seven points and nine points as a backup since Henderson became sidelined. — Jason Quick, Trail Blazers beat writer
Backstory
Henderson exited the Nov. 1 game against the Pistons at the 5:35 mark in the third quarter. He started the second half with five points and three assists in seven possessions.
The Trail Blazers beat the Pistons 110-101 in Henderson’s absence. Before leaving the game, Henderson had 11 points and seven assists.
Portland is 3-5 in 2023-24, sitting 11th in the Western Conference.
