Ipswich Town have agreed a deal to sign Chelsea striker Armando Broja on a season-long loan.
The two clubs remain in discussions over an obligation to buy clause and the fee that this would involve.
The 22-year-old has been training away from Chelsea’s first team since returning from the pre-season tour of the United States earlier this month as he and the club work to find him a new home, either on loan or permanently.
Broja has previously spent periods on loan at Vitesse, Southampton and Fulham and is contracted to Chelsea until 2028.
The Albania international has been at Chelsea since joining their academy from Tottenham Hotspur in 2009 and made his senior debut in March 2020.
He suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in December 2022, which kept him out until September.
Broja then joined Fulham in the January transfer window but his playing time at Craven Cottage was restricted, making just eight appearances and failing to score.
He previously scored nine goals in 38 matches for Southampton during the 2021-22 season, before returning to Chelsea that summer, where he scored once in 18 games before his ACL injury.
George Hirst was Ipswich’s first-choice striker last season, but he is sidelined after undergoing knee surgery this summer. Kieran McKenna’s side also signed Liam Delap from Manchester City this transfer window, and the 21-year-old started their Premier League defeat to Liverpool on Saturday, with Ali Al-Hamadi featuring from the bench.
