Jessica Alba, Sydney Sweeney, and Shanina Shaik Embrace the Monochromatic Trend at RH Newport Opening

Fall looks were on full display at the opening of RH Newport on Thursday night, with celebrities such as Jessica Alba, Sydney Sweeney, Shanina Shaik putting forth their takes on it.

While they each wore a distinct look, there was one commonality: the monochromatic trend. The breakout style, which has been peaking in recent months thanks to the likes of Naomi Campbell, Pamela Anderson, Salma Hayek, and Cardi B, was embraced with a tailored approach.

Below, take a look at how Alba, Sweeney, and Shaik wore it.

Jessica Alba wore a chocolate blazer by Amiri as a cape, pairing it with a tonal corset by Statnaia, a high-waisted pencil skirt, and Khaite’s Simona shoulder bag. Alba accessorized with a gold wraparound Movado watch and a necklace by Sauer. Alba posted a carousel of photos of her look to Instagram, writing, “The new RH store – no notes. 10/10.”

Sydney Sweeney meanwhile wore a grey monochromatic look, opting for a double-breasted wool blazer, a backless halter vest, and a mini skort — all by Tom Ford. Sweeney accessorized her ensemble with a pair of bow-topped pointed-toe heels and a diamond necklace, and was styled by Molly Dickson for the occasion, who told WWD of the look, “We wanted something that was effortless but still elevated for an evening event… We had other options that were more cocktail, specifically a bright red cocktail dress, but given the event was with Restoration Hardware, we felt this Tom Ford suit set was the perfect complement to the brand’s aesthetic — cool, relaxed but still luxurious.”

Shanina Shaik opted to wear the monochromatic trend in a merlot palette, combining a double-breasted overcoat with a maroon button up shirt and matching pleated trousers. Shaik accesorized with a bag by Staud and a pair of pointed-toe heels.

Burgundy, and its parent color red, has been one of the biggest breakout trends for fall, with celebrities such as Lupita Nyong’o, Ryan Destiny, and Salma Hayek donning it head-to-toe. Just last weekend, red emerged as a favorite at Deadline’s 2024 Contenders Film: Los Angeles, where Nyong’o wore two red dresses — a knit burgundy bodycon midi dress and a red sleeveless shift dress with a wavy fringe hem — and Destiny paired a burgundy leather pencil skirt with a matching leather jacket, surplice top, and pointed-toe heels. Hayek, meanwhile in June, wore a monochromatic burgundy ensemble consisting of a dress and matching jacket from Gucci’s spring 2024 “Ancora” collection.

Not to mention, in March, Alix Morabito from Galeries Lafayette, told WWD, “Red is without a doubt this season’s staple, whether it be in bright flashes or total looks.”

The RH Newport opening at The Gallery at Fashion Island also brought out Sara Foster, Erin Foster, Lizzy Mathis, Gerrit Cole, Amanda Stanton and mayor of Newport Beach, Will O’Neill.
