Julia Fox Makes a Metallic Statement in Chainmail Catholic Guilt Gown at NGV Gala 2024

Julia Fox melded Renaissance-inspired chainmail with modern art on Saturday in Melbourne, Australia, where she attended the National Gallery of Victoria Gala. The soirée celebrated the opening of the museum’s Yayoi Kusama exhibit.

Fox sported a custom gown by Australian label Catholic Guilt, which took 700 hours to complete. Woven with jump rings, it was embellished with red carnelian stones as a nod to the Japanese artist’s iconic polka dot works.

Fox accessorized with a matching headpiece and chatelaine purse, completing her intricate look with Sable Jewelry rings and red reptile print Matea Gluščević platforms. The “Uncut Gems” star was dressed by her close friend and stylist, Briana Andalore.

Hairdresser John Novotny styled Fox’s ash blond tresses in waist-length waves, while makeup artist Meg McConville gave her a silver smokey eye and a nude lip.

Fox previously wore a sustainable Catholic Guilt top — made from leather scraps — on her E! show, “OMG Fashun.” Cohosted by Zendaya’s stylist Law Roach, the reality competition seeks to discover the next generation of fashion “disruptors.”

“I know how disheartening it can be to enter an industry where there’s a few people at the top calling all the shots, and you have to have a lot of money and connections and privilege,” Fox told WWD in May. “To get a celebrity to wear your clothes on such a big stage is the dream, but it’s hard, and it doesn’t cost me anything. Most of the time, these kids’ designs are way cooler than the usual stuff we see.”

Fox has made a habit of wearing clothes crafted from unorthodox materials: watches, plastic bags and condoms have comprised some of her most daring looks. Designers on “OMG Fashun” are given similar prompts. Within the show’s first two episodes, contestants are tasked with making garments out of insects, plants and plastic straws.
