Manchester City forward Vivianne Miedema has undergone surgery on her left knee.
The nature of the problem that required surgery or a timeframe for her return has not been confirmed, but City say she will now undergo “a period of rehabilitation” at the club’s training ground.
Miedema has not featured for City since the 2-0 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League on October 9, missing her side’s last three matches in all competitions.
Speaking ahead of the victory over Aston Villa before October’s international break, City head coach Gareth Taylor said: “We don’t think it’s an issue that’s going to keep her out for her too long.”
Miedema underwent “minor” knee surgery in March 2024 and she was limited to nine WSL appearances last season. The Dutch international returned from 11 months out with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in October 2023, after the injury forced her to miss the 2023 World Cup.
Miedema departed Arsenal following the conclusion of her contract in the summer, ending her seven-year stay at the club, and joined City on a free transfer.
The WSL’s all-time top scorer has made five appearances and scored two goals for Taylor’s side this season.
City have welcomed Miedema’s international team-mate Jill Roord back from an ACL injury this month.
City are top of the WSL and return to action against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
