Manchester United's Antony to be assessed following injury against Fenerbahce: 'It’s really unlucky for him'

Erik ten Hag says Manchester United will “need to wait 24 hours” to have a better understanding of Antony’s injury after the winger was stretchered off during Thursday’s 1-1 Europa League draw with Fenerbahce.

Antony, who replaced Marcus Rashford in the 73rd minute, lasted only 16 minutes before pulling up in visible pain. After attempting to continue, he was eventually carried off, with United manager Ten Hag describing the injury as “really unlucky” for the Brazilian.

The 24-year-old, who has struggled for regular game time this season, was spotted on social media leaving the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium wearing a protective boot and using crutches, casting doubt on his immediate availability.

“It’s really unlucky for him,” Ten Hag told MUTV after the match. “I feel real compassion for him, when he worked so hard in training.

“His training performances are that good that he deserved to come on. When you have to come off so quickly, that is really sad to see. Hopefully, it’s not too bad, we have to wait 24 hours for what the assessment is.”

Ten Hag is already managing a lengthy injury list, including Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, and Tyrell Malacia. Captain Bruno Fernandes will, however, be available for Sunday’s Premier League clash with West Ham United after serving a one-game suspension in Europe for a red card he picked up against Porto.
