MLB Winter Meetings live updates: Latest news, rumors and analysis from Day 2 in Dallas

It’s been a little less than 36 hours since Juan Soto agreed to his record-breaking contract with the New York Mets, and at least one engaged baseball executive expects the market to start moving in a hurry now that the biggest name is off the board.

“It would not be surprising at all for things to move pretty quickly,” Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said. “I think many teams have long considered, ‘OK, what does the pivot look like once we find out where that chips falls?’”

There’s no time like the present.

As Major League Baseball begins its second day of the Winter Meetings, the market does seem primed for action. Monday was relatively slow, but it did include a couple of notable signings — starter Alex Cobb with the Tigers; closer Jordan Romano with the Phillies — and there seems to be a healthy amount of attention (or perceived attention) on Alex Bregman and some of the market’s higher-end starting pitchers. Whatever happens, we’ll be here with Day 2 of our Winter Meetings Live Blog.

“Teams are moving quickly, they’re acting quickly,” Breslow said. “I don’t recall an offseason where this many players have signed at this point. I think that’s indicative of the health of the industry.”
