Rodd & Gunn Inks Deal for Store at 555 Fifth Avenue

Rodd & Gunn is making its way uptown.

Six months after planting a stake in Manhattan with a store in the Flatiron district, the Auckland, New Zealand-based men’s brand will open a unit at 555 Fifth Avenue on Dec. 10.

The space, at 46th Street, will total 3,378 square feet with 1,870 square feet on the street level and 1,134 square feet on the sub-mezzanine. There is also an additional 374 square feet in the basement.

“We are pleased to welcome Rodd & Gunn, a brand that has long been synonymous with quality and has cultivated a strong following for its exceptionally crafted apparel, to 555 Fifth Avenue,” said Kate Hemmerdinger Goodman, copresident of ATCO Properties & Management, which owns 555 Fifth Avenue. “We are confident this new location will be a celebrated addition to the neighborhood for local shoppers and visitors alike.”

This will mark Rodd & Gunn’s third New York City store, following the Flatiron unit at 125 Fifth Avenue that opened in May and its first U.S. store that opened in Dumbo in Brooklyn in 2011. All told, Rodd & Gunn operates more than 240 stores and concessions globally and also has a strong wholesale business at retailers such as Bloomingdale’s and Nordstrom.

Its newest home at 555 Fifth Avenue will be part of the 20-story, 259,000-square-foot building that was built in 1955, and has been updated with green terraces, LEED certification, low loss factors, upgraded elevators and an artificially intelligent HVAC system, according to ATCO. Other retailers operating in the building are Barnes & Noble and JoJu Vietnamese.

Michael Paster of Newmark represented both the tenant and the landlord in the transaction. The asking rent for the space was $475 a square foot.

Rodd & Gunn’s heritage dates to 1946, when the brand’s English Pointer logo was used on a line of New Zealand-made shirts. It has since created a full lifestyle collection of apparel and footwear. It entered the U.S. market about 12 years ago.
