Sofía Vergara is back on the Golden Globes red carpet, nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Motion Picture Made for Television for her role Griselda Blanco — the cunning Godmother of Miami’s drug underground — in the TV drama “Griselda.” It’s a significant appearance, not only because Jan. 5 marks the first time since 2020 that Vergara is in attendance at this annual awards ceremony but also because of her high-glam, oh-so-chic makeup look.

Created by Sabrina Bedrani — a makeup artist who’s worked magic on no shortage of other celebrities, including, most recently, Michelle Yeoh at the Los Angeles premiere of “Wicked” and Heidi Klum during the world premiere of “Mufasa: The Lion King” — Vergara’s look included smokey eyes, top and bottom eyelash mascara coverage, light eyeliner work, and an earthy rose lip. The products used are exclusively from Anastasia Beverly Hills, including two new launches slated for release on Jan. 9: the Impeccable Second Skin Matte Foundation and the Impeccable Setting Spray.

Bedrani also used the brand’s Magic Touch Concealer, in Shade #7, to color-correct Vergara’s under-eyes; the Cream Bronzer in Caramel to give her skin a kind of sun-kissed warmth (Vergara’s hairline, cheekbones, and jawline also benefitted from swipes of this bronzer); and the Soft Glam Eyeshadow Palette, with a base of Burnt Orange followed by Sienna, which she extended outward for a cat-eye shape. Sienna was also used to gently delineate Vergara’s lower lash line. The star’s eyes were further dolled up with both the Darkside Waterproof Gel Liner and the Lash Sculpt Lengthening & Volumizing Mascara in Black, while her lips were treated to the Matte & Satin Lipstick in Soft Brown, defying red lip stereotypes.

Vergara’s outfit is monochromatic enough to ensure her makeup pops amidst the flash of cameras. On the carpet, she dons a curve-hugging, strapless black gown with a lace edge and criss-crossing fabrics with sparkly finishes. The dress’s skirt flares out slightly above her knee, creating a mermaid silhouette of sorts. She keeps it simple as far as accessories go, choosing to bypass bracelets in favor of rings, a white mani, and a necklace embedded with diamonds from Lorraine Schwartz Jewelry.

The stars of the show amidst all this? Vergara’s eyebrows, without a doubt — whose thickness, sculptedness, and arched nature can also be attributed to Anastasia Beverly Hills (specifically, the Brow Wiz pencil in Soft Brown set with Brow Freeze Gel, for beauty that’s locked in place to last all night). Speaking to WWD’s editor-in-chief of beauty, Jenny Fine, on the red carpet, Vergara said her brows were done the night before by the brand’s founder Anastasia Soare and that, before meeting Soare, she was never one to pay attention to them. Now, it’s safe to say Vergara mastered the “brows on fleek” look.

Founded by Soare in 1997, Anastasia Beverly Hills is believed to have single-handedly invented the brow industry that we know today. Specifically, Soare masterminded her patented Golden Ratio eyebrow-shaping method, which taps into the rule of thirds to create an illusion of facial symmetry while working with clients’ unique bone structures. The year 2000 saw Soare launch the brand’s eyebrow makeup line, and, in 2014, she expanded it to include color cosmetics more broadly. Currently, Anastasia Beverly Hills also offers essentials for the eyes, face, and lips, as well as celebrity makeup artist–loved makeup brushes. Brows, though, will always be front-and-center in the brand’s repertoire, with products like the Brow Freeze maintaining TikTok-viral status.

While Anastasia Beverly Hills’s pigment palettes spare nothing when it comes to color and vibrancy, its eye, lip, and cheek makeup is all about embracing the neutrals and nudes — helping make glam feel natural. The popular Velvet Lip Duo, for example, comes in a variety of peaches, pale pinks, and soft beiges that can complement any complexion.

Historically speaking, Vergara has kept a kind of pattern going during past Golden Globes red carpets. The pattern in question? Fashion-wise, she’s stuck to form-fitting-slash-mermaid dress silhouettes, like with 2010’s strapless Carolina Herrera gown in blue, boasting a red sash accent and tulle skirt; 2012’s Vera Wang gown, with a flared hemline and featherlike bottom section; and 2020’s burgundy Dolce & Gabbana number, which was studded by delicate jewels and matched her clutch. Indeed, Vergara’s preference at paparazzi-laden events in general seems to be not only for gowns that accentuate curves but also those with shiny finishes — courtesy of crystals and even sequins as witnessed on the “America’s Got Talent” Season 19 Semifinals red carpet, where the actress (who’s also been a judge on the show since 2020) sported a strapless gray dress with a corset-style bodice. At the 82nd Annual Golden Globes, this all checks out.

When she’s not going the metallic route, Vergara typically plays around with bold colors, a prime example being her no-holds-barred neon green jumpsuit on the “America’s Got Talent” Season 19 Quarterfinals 3 red carpet. For more muted looks, Vergara usually adds bling vis-à-vis strategic jewelry choices. In the case of the 2014 Golden Globes, for instance, she flaunted a turquoise Lorraine Schwartz statement necklace to elevate a Zac Posen black dress, which was already speaking volumes with its voluminous skirt.

In the makeup department, Vergara is similarly known for drama. She gravitates towards full-glam looks, punctuated by a bold lip, defined eyes (often smokey!), and contoured cheeks. At the Miami premiere of “Griselda,” Vergara’s eyelids were given lift thanks to eyeshadow whose shade straddled the line between dusty rose and rust, complemented by high-pigment lips of a similar color and defined brows. It’s no wonder, then, that Vergara chose Anastasia Beverly Hills as her makeup partner of the night — this brand is, in fact, known for being glam to the max, what with its cult-favorite contour kits, shimmering eyeshadow palettes, made-for-the-camera highlighters, and beyond.

When it comes to her flowing locks, Vergara’s hairstylists — who’ve included Chris Appleton (who received the Hairstylist Award at the 2025 WWD Style Awards), Renato Campora, and Tyler Johnston — oftentimes let them down, framing her face with a middle part and soft waves throughout. This isn’t a steadfast rule for Vergara, however, who’s also been known to wear a sleeked-back bun or section it in a side part. For the 2025 Golden Globes, her stylist chose the sleek-and-straight look, letting her makeup and gown do the talking.

Though this isn’t Vergara’s first Golden Globes ceremony, it’s the first time she’s ever been nominated for a role besides that of Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in the hit TV show “Modern Family,” which aired from 2009 to 2020. She received four Golden Globe nominations in that capacity, for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
