Texan private equity firm, Presidio Investors, completes Hellas Verona takeover

Hellas Verona have become the latest Serie A club to be taken over by an American consortium.

Presidio Investors, a Texas-based private equity firm, have acquired 100 per cent of the club from long-running owner Maurizio Setti.

Incoming executive chairman, Italo Zanzi, who worked in the past for Roma, said: “It is a profound honour to join Hellas Verona, a club that embodies the passion and heritage of the city of Verona.”

Hellas were once a fairytale story in Italian football, winning a memorable and unexpected title in 1985 under the guidance of Osvaldo Bagnoli.

The change of ownership means Hellas become the ninth team in Italy’s top flight to have a North American custodian.

There is now a majority of foreign backed clubs in Serie A. Como are financed by the Indonesian Hartono brothers, Italy’s richest benefactors.

Genoa recently swapped hands as part of the 777 fall-out. Romanian businessman Dan Sucu recently assumed control.
