Kansas missed top player Kevin McCullar Jr. for a second straight game, and Texas Tech stepped up Monday night to deliver a lopsided win over the No. 6 Jayhawks that saw coach Bill Self ejected for the first time in his 21-year Kansas tenure.

The Red Raiders’ Darrion Williams scored a career-high 30 points on 12-of-12 shooting with 11 rebounds in a 79-50 win over Kansas. Williams became the first Big 12 player with 30 or more points on a 100 percent shooting since Oklahoma State’s Marshall Moses did it in 2010. The 29-point loss marked Kansas’ largest against an unranked opponent since a defeat to Kentucky on Dec. 16, 1950.

Williams hit a three to open the game, and the Red Raiders held that lead for most of the night.

Guards Johnny Furphy and Nicolas Timberlake each scored 13 points to lead the Jayhawks, who shot a season-low 32.7 percent from the field. Kansas played without McCullar, who previously told ESPN’s “College GameDay” that he was “a little banged up,” and guard Dajuan Harris Jr. after he rolled his left ankle against Baylor on Saturday.

“We’re beat up and tired right now,” Self said.

Kansas’ Hunter Dickinson was limited to five points, and after he was called for an offensive foul at 5:49, Self was assessed two technicals for arguing the call and ejected.

“I did say a magic word, I guess, multiple times that got me a couple of technicals,” Self said, per the Associated Press. “I honestly feel the game’s not being called the way it needs to be called. Regardless of (whether) it’s our favor or their favor, it makes no difference to me.”

Monday marked the third time in three days and the 35th time this season that a team ranked in the top 10 of the AP Top 25 poll lost to an unranked opponent on the road.

The Jayhawks (19-6) have lost four straight road games and are 12th in the Big 12. The Red Raiders are third in the conference with an 18-6 record.
